Data Centers are a huge consumer of energy but are still not making use of green technology to lessen their impact on the environment. Often they are not located in proximity to sustainable energy sources and storing or transferring the product of those sources is not technologically feasible yet. While there is some interest in pursuing green technologies, such as re-using hybrid car batteries or using waste heat from data centers for consumer heating, data centers are conservative in their approach to changing their energy profile.
