April 25, 2014 saw the close of Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s Chinese holdings with only a few alterations to the original deal. Microsoft has hired a score of Nokia employees who were originally remaining with the Finnish company and will be taking over the Nokia.com domain. The deal has mucked up Nokia’s ability to roll out its new wireless strategy, as they now focus on finding a replacement for Stephen Elop, who is moving to head Microsoft’s Hardware unit. The deal puts Microsoft on much firmer footing to compete with other mobile giants Apple and Samsung.
